Nancy Grace Mysteries Hits a New Low

After watching the all day media coverage of the George Zimmerman trial all week long, I was curious to see what Nancy Grace would have to say about things on her Friday evening show “Nancy Grace Mysteries”. Let’s just say she didn’t disappoint.

Other than the opening day on Monday, I have found the testimony and questioning very dull; repetitive, pointless, and redundant. Other than when defense attorney Don West started off VERY poorly with a knock-knock joke, and prosecutor John Guy (who should be on the cover of Hot, Handsome Lawyer Magazine IMO) 🙂 quoted George Zimmerman saying “Those fucking punks. Those assholes, they always get away”, there has been very little excitement in the courthouse all week.

So imagine my surprise when NG started out her show with “What a day in the courtroom. It was one of the most explosive days so far”. WHAT?? She must have been watching a different trial than I have been all week. Explosive? Hardly. Now Juan Martinez and the Jodi Arias trial, THAT was explosive!

Nancy finds the fact that GZ shows no emotion very interesting, and thinks it may be a mistake (on the defenses part). She doesn’t say WHY she finds it interesting, just that she does. On December 3rd, 2012 an emotional Joe Oliver (who is black) told Robin Meade on HLN’s Morning Express that his friend GZ is being treated for depression, post traumatic stress disorder and insomnia – and that he has become a “scapegoat.”

My own personal belief is that GZ may be suffering from sleep apnea, due to the 100 plus pounds he’s put on in just over a year. That would certainly account for the flat affect, and appearance that he is sometimes ready to nod off in court. Undiagnosed sleep apnea, compounded by the incredible stress of a murder trial must be exhausting, and he’s fighting every minute in court to stay awake and alert. It’s either that, or he’s medicated, or a combination of both in my humble opinion.

NG says the defense during cross-examination, is using the ‘Andy of Mayberry’ style of questioning. She thinks they are staying likeable to the jury, which is important. She admits that it came out this week that there were grass stains on the knees of TM’s pants, and acknowledges the defense is going to use that as proof that TM was on top of GZ, straddling him. She does however think there are many ways to explain the stains, but believes it’s going to be a problem for the State, but so far she thinks the State has done everything right.

Neighbors John Good and Jonathan Manalo testified that they witnessed or heard parts of the fight outside their condos’. John Good said that GZ was on the bottom once they were on the ground, and that TM was in the “Ground & Pound” position, with TM straddling and punching GZ in the Mixed Martial Arts style (although apparently GZ was taking MMA classes 3 times a week).

The stupidest question I heard this week came from prosecution attorney Bernie De La Rionda, when questioning Jonathan Manalo. Mr Manalo had said when he came out of his home GZ was holding his cell phone up to his left ear, and the attorney asked him to demonstrate how GZ was doing that, so Mr Manalo held his hand up to his left ear with a ‘pretend’ phone in it. It was completely moronic. Is that really what they teach at law school? What’s next? Arm waving demonstrations? Eye blinking? Frowning? Anyway, I digress.

The thing I found most amusing about NG Mysteries tonight, was the ridiculous sub-titles they were showing across the bottom of the screen. Here are my favorite redundant or pointless statements on the banner:

“All New Explosive Testimony From Court Today. Who Do You Believe?”

“Witness didn’t see anyones head slammed into concrete!”

“Eyewitness: “It looked like a tussle”

Witness: “Trayvon face down after shot fired”

EMT: “Zimmerman had swollen nose, lacerations to back of head”

EMT: “Zimmerman was bleeding, not heavily”

“Was Zimmerman in a fight for his life?”

Neighbor 911 call: “There’s a black guy down …. I’m pretty sure he’s dead”

Today big day for defense? Witness says Trayvon straddled, hit George Zimmerman.

Bombshell: Witness says Trayvon appeared to hit, straddle Zimmerman before shot fired.

Neighbors: “I believe GZ was screaming for help”

Now unless you’ve been living under a rock, don’t own a television or radio, and haven’t heard of the internet, you would have already been aware from the intense media coverage, that there was a “tussle”. You would also be well aware that GZ was getting his ass kicked, and ended up with the broken nose and cuts and lumps on the back of his head.

It just shows how little evidence there actually is in this case, if Nancy Grace considers this stuff “explosive”. She thinks that the defense should be doing back bends to get the self-defence story explained, without putting GZ on the stand. She says “He’ll be shredded, absolutely shredded by the State!” She also states “the defense needs to rely on photos of the blood on GZ’s head; the broken nose; and let the pictures speak 1,000 words. That’s what they NEED to do. Will they do it? I’m not sure, but I would advise against George Zimmerman taking the stand.”

Ending the night in typical, medodramatic NG style, regarding the 911 call where you hear the shot fired she says “the jury knows that call for help was a death scream, and they heard a 17 year old boy take his last breath on earth”.

Really? I think NG is taking things WAY too personally. Bcause she has a son, she relates to, and has sided with the family of TM since day one, and has obviously formed the opinion that TM was the one calling for help on that 911 call. Never mind that the FBI’s own expert in voice analysis said it was impossible to determine WHO’s voice it was; Nancy knows better. She is really starting to grate on my last nerve. Every day I’ve watched hours of live trial coverage, interviews, newpaper coverage, and read as much about the case as I can on the internet, and I STILL don’t know for sure if it was self defense. Some days I think it’s going well for the prosecution, and other days it seems the defense gets lucky. I just wish Nancy would pretend, even just a little bit, that she’s unbiased and logical in her reporting, rather than her current evil, shrieking, hag persona. I used to love NG, but now, not so much.
